Scroll zkEVM Introduction: 5 Steps to Start Your L2 Dapp Interaction Journey
Scroll zkEVM Introduction: A Newbie's Guide to Interacting with L2 Dapps
This article will introduce newbies to how to start using Scroll zkEVM and interact with Ethereum L2 Dapps. Although we will take Scroll as an example, the skills learned here are also applicable to other layer two networks. To demonstrate, we will use an on-chain tic-tac-toe game running on the Scroll L2 network.
Preparation: Install a Digital Wallet
If you haven't installed a digital wallet yet, now is the time. There are multiple options available, just choose one that you find suitable.
Step 1: Configure Testnet
Scroll zkEVM has currently launched its alpha testnet, which is a Layer 2 network compatible with EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine). This means that smart contracts written for Ethereum can be deployed directly on Scroll zkEVM without modification. The Scroll L2 alpha testnet is currently connected to the Ethereum Goerli testnet, confirming transactions by batching transactions sent to the Goerli L1 network.
To set up the Scroll L2 network, please visit the official website and follow the instructions to add the network to your digital wallet. At the same time, if you haven't added the Goerli network yet, please add it as well.
Step 2: Obtain Goerli test ETH
After setting up the network, you need to obtain some Goerli test ETH. There are several faucets you can use:
A certain faucet: provides 0.2 ETH each time, registration and login are required to obtain tokens.
Another faucet: This is a PoW (Proof of Work) faucet that can provide more ETH, but you need to keep the page open and "mine" for a while.
The third option: You need to log in with a social media account, and it takes some time to obtain 0.1 ETH.
You can choose one or combine multiple faucets. Once you have enough ETH, you can proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Transfer ETH from Goerli to Scroll L2
Now, we need to transfer some ETH that we just obtained to the Scroll L2 testnet. Visit the official bridging interface and follow the instructions on the page to transfer ETH to your address on the Scroll L2 testnet.
Please note that this process may take some time to complete. Once the ETH transfer is successful, you can start experiencing on-chain games!
Step 4: Experience the On-Chain Tic-Tac-Toe Game
The game interface is now live. Connect your wallet and create a new game. Since this is a multiplayer game, you need to add your friend's address or use another wallet address of yours as the second player.
After creating the game, select your game from the list, and then you can start playing tic-tac-toe on the chain.
This game has another interesting feature: if you make a mistake at any point in the game, or if you don't want to lose, you can reset the game at any time.
Step 5 (Optional): Explore Other Dapps on Scroll L2
If you want to try more Dapps and games on Scroll, you can check the official Dapps list, which has more interesting applications waiting for you to explore.
Through this simple guide, you have successfully stepped into the world of Scroll zkEVM and experienced Dapps on the L2 network. As you become more familiar with this ecosystem, you will discover even more exciting applications waiting for you to explore and use. Have fun on your journey of exploration in Web3!
