The U.S. Department of Justice has sued Russian hackers and seized $24 million in encryption assets.

Gate News bot message, the U.S. Department of Justice has filed a criminal complaint against 48-year-old Russian citizen Rustam Rafailevich Gallyamov, accusing him of developing and deploying Qakbot malware and participating in global Ransomware attacks. Law enforcement seized over $24 million in illegally obtained encryption assets during the investigation and initiated civil forfeiture proceedings.

According to the indictment, Gallyamov has controlled the Qakbot system since 2008. After 2019, he provided system vulnerabilities to other criminal groups by building a "botnet," assisting in the implantation of Ransomware such as Prolock, REvil, and Black Basta, and earning a share from the ransom.
