Military expert: Russia has the ability to fight for another year in Ukraine, but faces a shortage of tanks
On February 13th, Jinshi data reported that a well-known security research institution expert said that Russia has the weapons it needs to fight in Ukraine for at least another year and maintains the initiative on the battlefield, but is encountering difficulties in updating destroyed tanks. Ben Barry, an expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London, said, "Because consumption is an important factor in land warfare, Russia has the initiative, while Ukraine is fighting a ground defense battle." If the ceasefire does not occur, the war is likely to continue in the same pattern in the coming months. Further bloody ground attrition battles will result in heavy casualties on both sides. If Russia wants to prolong the war, I believe they have the potential manpower, equipment, and logistical resources to continue fighting for the rest of this year. IISS also estimates that since the outbreak of the conflict, Russia has lost a total of 4400 main battle tanks and has had to rely on a small number of old-fashioned armored personnel carriers manufactured in the 1950s and tanks made in the 1960s. The remaining inventory of equipment can allow Russia to maintain its current rate of battle damage in the short term, but a large number of platforms require expensive overhauls, the report said.
