The attorney general of 14 U.S. states filed a lawsuit challenging Musk's "broad powers" and his "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) for violating the U.S. Constitution. According to the lawsuit, the state attorney general believes that the president cannot delegate such enormous powers to an individual who has not been elected and confirmed by the Senate. According to the U.S. Constitution, generally speaking, any official who is considered important to the U.S. government needs to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. The White House described Musk as the head of the "Department of Government Efficiency" and a "special government employee". The state attorney general said the court should prohibit Musk from issuing orders to any executive branch personnel other than the "Department of Government Efficiency" and declare that his actions have no legal effect.
