The Arbitrum Foundation, which supports the Ethereum-based Layer 2 network Arbitrum, announced a significant investment aimed at developing the gaming industry within its own ecosystem. Over the next three years, the foundation will allocate approximately 225 million Arbitrum (ARB) tokens worth about 215 million dollars to the newly established Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP).
This initiative, approved on June 7, aims to increase the adoption and usage of Arbitrum, Orbit, and Stylus among game developers and players. The proposal, initially introduced in March, received strong support from important organizations such as L2Beat, Wintermute, and Treasure DAO, despite opposition from institutions such as Blockworks Research and Camelot DAO.
Treasure DAO, which celebrates the transition of my venture, highlighted the potential of Arbitrum to be a significant player in the gaming sector. GCP aims to support both new and established game developers. Grants of up to 500,000 ARB (approximately 483,000 US dollars) will be offered to new and early-stage developers, while more experienced developers may seek investments that include components such as tokens or equity sharing. Funds will also be allocated to infrastructure-related rewards and operational costs to support the broader ecosystem.
GCP, gaming, venture capital, data analysis, and DAO governance will be managed by an expert team under the guidance of a five-member council with expertise in these areas. This council will ensure the effective use of funds and the alignment of the program's goals. They also have veto power over investment decisions and team appointments, ensuring accountability.
In addition, GCP has set a cap of 25 million dollars for operational expenses; DAO approval is required for expenses exceeding this limit.
