Research: The use of Crypto Assets in criminal activities in the Western Balkans is increasing.

According to Decrypt, a recent study by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) shows that the use of crypto assets in criminal activities in the Western Balkans is on the rise, involving countries such as Albania and Serbia. Criminal networks are transferring tens of millions of euros through crypto wallets, primarily for drug trafficking money laundering, fraud, and illegal mining. GI-TOC points out that the volume in the region reaches $25 billion to $30 billion, but only three cases of crypto assets confiscation have been recorded, indicating insufficient regulatory and technical capabilities.
