Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, made a surprise appearance at the Bitcoin 2025 conference on Thursday, just a few months after being fully pardoned by President Donald Trump. After 11 years in prison with a sentence of two life terms plus 40 years without parole, Ulbricht emotionally shared that it felt like "stepping out of a time machine," overwhelmed by the changes in the world, technology, and Bitcoin.

"I never knew if I would ever be free. Now I stand here, thanks to you all," Ulbricht choked out, expressing his gratitude to the Bitcoin community for not giving up on him during his time in captivity.

President Trump signed a pardon on January 21, 2025, keeping his promise during the 2024 election campaign to attract support from the cryptocurrency community. Ulbricht called this event a "miracle," praising Trump as a "man of integrity and keeping his word."

Ulbricht calls on the community to uphold three core principles: freedom, decentralization, and solidarity. "If we believe in freedom and that decentralization protects it, we must stand together," he affirmed.
