In his statement referring to tariff letters, Trump said, "In addition to the letters sent to various countries yesterday, according to the letters to be sent today, tomorrow, and in the coming days, customs duties will begin to be paid on August 1, 2025. There has been no change to this date, nor will there be."
Trump stated that, in other words, "the money will be collected as of August 1," and announced that no extensions would be granted.

President Trump shared tariff letters containing customs duty rates for 14 countries, including Tunisia, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Japan, South Africa, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Indonesia, Serbia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos, on his social media account yesterday. "Tariffs can be adjusted up or down."
Trump, in the letters, stated that "perhaps" adjustments could be made, saying, "These tariffs can be adjusted up or down depending on our relationship with your country."

Trump stated that the applicable tariff rates are 25% for Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and Tunisia, 30% for South Africa and Bosnia and Herzegovina, 32% for Indonesia, 35% for Bangladesh and Serbia, 36% for Cambodia and Thailand, and 40% for Laos and Myanmar. He also announced that, starting from August 1, an additional 25% customs duty would be applied to all products sent from Japan and South Korea to the USA, separate from sectoral tariffs. Trump's "tariff letters" also affected global markets.
The customs tariffs that have not fallen off the agenda since Trump's assumption of office continue to have an impact on the direction of the markets.
