Summary of major US and Japanese stocks ahead of this week's earnings announcements | Investment Tips | Moneyクリ Monex Securities' investment information and money-saving media
This week (from July 21 to 25), major earnings reports for key Japanese and American stocks are scheduled, particularly in America where the earnings announcements for Alphabet [GOOGL] and Tesla [TSLA], which make up the Magnificent 7, are attracting attention. In Japan, Nidec (6594), Chugai Pharmaceutical (4519), and Shin-Etsu Chemical (4063) are scheduled, marking the beginning of earnings reports for large-cap stocks. This time, we will verify the expected PER (price-to-earnings ratio), analysts' profit forecasts, and target stock prices for the stocks scheduled to report earnings this week.
Looking at the recent expected PER from the percentile values over the past five years (*), there are only four stocks that exceed 80% and feel overvalued. For large-cap stocks like Alphabet, which might seem overvalued, a PER of 17.6 times can be considered somewhat undervalued compared to its past levels. There is also a discrepancy with the target stock price, and although regulatory risks from authorities are a concern, it can be said that this is a level worth watching. On the other hand, Tesla's expected PER is 139.9 times, which is high even compared to the past five years, and it is currently above the target stock price. Additionally, the U.S. administration's move to eliminate subsidies for EVs indicates a challenging external environment. To aim for further upside, it will be necessary to show positive materials in this week's earnings report.
(*) The percentile value is a number that indicates what percentage of the data a certain value corresponds to when the data is arranged in ascending order, with 50% being the median. Here, a larger value indicates a higher discount rate during the relevant period.
This week, the forecasted figures for quarterly revenue and EPS (earnings per share) are organized in a list, and attention is focused on whether each company can demonstrate performance exceeding these levels.
