The first case of virtual money crime in Fujian has been cracked, illegally trapping 110,000 USDT to profit 340,000 yuan.
Recently, Fujian Province successfully solved a case involving Virtual Money, marking the first of its kind in the province.
After more than four months of investigation and evidence collection, the Cybersecurity Team of the Xiuyu Branch of Putian Public Security Bureau successfully arrested the suspect Xu Mouhang in September 2019 for the crime of illegally obtaining data from computer information systems. Subsequently, Xu Mouhang was criminally detained and was prosecuted by the procuratorial authority in February this year.
Another accomplice in the case, Xu Mou Bin, chose to flee after the incident. However, under legal pressure, Xu Mou Bin ultimately decided to voluntarily surrender to the Xiuyu police on March 31 of this year. Thus, this case, the first in Fujian Province involving the illegal acquisition of computer information system data related to Virtual Money, has been completely solved.
According to the investigating police, in March last year, a 27-year-old man from Putian, Xu Mouhang (high school education, unemployed), obtained a download link for a certain Virtual Money trading platform through a social media platform. He then registered an account on the platform using his personal information. During the trading process, Xu Mouhang discovered and exploited a management loophole in the system, employing illegal means to obtain a large amount of USDT (a type of Virtual Money, also known as Tether).
In order to obtain more illegal benefits, Xu Mouhang, on one hand, purchased others' identity information online to register more accounts for continued illegal extraction, and on the other hand, informed Xu Moubin of this method of extracting USDT. Driven by huge profits, the two reached an agreement to use Xu Moubin's identity to register accounts to continue illegally extracting USDT on the platform and share the profits equally.
In the end, Xu Mouhang entered the platform multiple times and illegally obtained over 110,000 USDT. He used these illegally obtained USDT for trading, making a profit of over 260,000 yuan. Xu Moubin, on the other hand, illegally profited over 80,000 yuan.
The successful resolution of this case not only demonstrates the determination of law enforcement agencies to combat crimes related to Virtual Money, but also provides valuable experience for the investigation of similar cases. At the same time, it reminds us to stay vigilant when participating in Virtual Money transactions, comply with laws and regulations, and avoid crossing legal boundaries.
