New Development About the 768 Million Dollar Bitcoin Accidentally Lost in the UK!
English
Howells, from the city of Newport in Wales, claims that his friend accidentally threw away the hard drive and as a result, the hard drive was buried in the city's Docks Way landfill. Despite Howells' efforts to gain access to the area for a recovery operation or to claim 495 million pounds (620 million dollars) in compensation, a judge dismissed the case citing insufficient grounds and the passage of time as reasons for the unrealistic chance of success.
The Newport City Council, which oversees the landfill, declined to comment further on the matter. The council plans to close the landfill in the 2025-26 fiscal year and has obtained planning permission to develop a solar energy farm on the site to power the city's new garbage truck fleet.
Howells expressed surprise at the decision of the municipality to close the landfill site, saying:"It is quite surprising that the municipality plans to close the landfill site so early, especially since they claimed that closing the landfill site would have a significant harmful effect on the people of Newport by allowing me to search it in the Supreme Court, but at the same time, they planned to close the landfill site anyway."
It is reported that there are more than 1.4 million tons of waste in the landfill area and Howells believes that his lost cryptocurrency is in a 100,000 ton section of the hard drive. Howells is determined to recover his lost cryptocurrency and has discussed the possibility of buying the landfill with his investment partners.
He said, “I may be interested in purchasing the potential storage area” and added, “I have recently discussed this option with investment partners, and this option is on the table.”
Howells is also exploring legal options to challenge the judge's decision. However, given the court's stance on statute of limitations and the difficulties of locating the fixed disk more than a decade later, the recovery path remains uncertain.
