Will Buy Landfill for $784 Million Worth of Bitcoin, If Not Will Issue Tokens! - Coin Bulletin
The man who mistakenly threw away **$784 million worth of Bitcoin(BTC) is now moving to buy the landfill, and if that doesn't work, he will issue a token as a last resort.
Computer engineer James Howells, who lives in the city of Newport in South Wales, wants to buy a landfill to be able to recover his hard drive containing approximately 784 million dollars worth of 8 thousand Bitcoins.
Howells, who claimed that his ex-girlfriend accidentally threw away a fixed disk worth a fortune in 2013, has been requesting access to the landfill from the municipality several times in the last decade but has not received a positive response. In early 2024, Howells filed a lawsuit against Newport City Council with a compensation claim of $646 million, but the court dismissed the case.
After the announcement of the plans to completely close and convert the landfill into a solar power plant, Howells developed a new strategy. He said that if Newport City offers a fair market price, he and his investor partners may consider buying the landfill directly. However, for the purchase to take place, the municipality must accept the sale and Natural Resources Wales must grant excavation permission.
Alternative plan to issue NFT or token
Howells also mentioned that if the municipality does not cooperate with the sale, he is considering launching an NFT or auxiliary token project with the support of the cryptocurrency world.
Howells, who previously claimed that he could search the area with a team of experts he had previously created, where 1.4 million tons of waste are located, and that the hard drive could only be in an area of 100,000 tons, stated that the process would continue and, if necessary, he would take his case to the High Court.
Howells, who took his case, which the court rejected, to appeal on January 27, stated that the value of Bitcoin could reach 1.2 billion dollars by 2026 and that he would try every way to recover this lost fortune.
