President Donald Trump is set to appoint a former cryptocurrency executive to head a U.S. agency.

According to a document containing dozens of names to be nominated, Donald Trump will appoint Jonathan Gould, former executive of the blockchain company Bitfury, as the head of the Currency Control Office(OCC) of a banking institution.

Jonathan Gould has previously served as Senior Vice President at OCC and Chief Legal Counsel, and then worked as Chief Legal Counsel at Bitfury blockchain company.

This appointment is considered as part of Trump's OCC plan to merge the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) under the Treasury Department. Gould is expected to make a quick start due to his familiarity with the OCC leadership role.

It is believed that Gould's expertise in cryptocurrencies could help the institution work more effectively with Congress on stablecoins and market structure.

Donald Trump, previously appointed crypto-friendly figures to important regulatory positions. Trump, who selected Paul Atkins as the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), also announced plans to appoint a16z crypto's global policy head Brian Quintenz as the leader of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in the near future.
